CRRA Update - 2012 Fees Now Due********

Please note 2012 CRRA annual fees are now due.  Please ensure your payment is in by June 30, 2012.
Cheques should be made to the Cougar Ridge Residents Association and mailed to our management company at:
Suite 810, Atrium 1, 839 5 Ave SW
Calgary AB T2P 3C8

Thank you!

Note: we are trying to work with the city to obtain better service when it comes to mowing of the grass in Cougar Ridge.  The CRRA has not taken over this responsibility.  In addition, we are aware that the pathways are in bad shape and will try to address this in the weeks ahead.

Improvements have been made to all the parks within the CRRA area.  Weeding and trimming of bushes was completed and mulch was added to the bedding areas in the parks.

Planters will soon be added along 85th Street.

CRRA Update - Spring 2012!

15 May 2012

Notice to all CRRA member residents: Invoices for 2012 will be sent out in late May and fees will be due June 30/2012, as in previous years.  CRRA member residents are those homeowners with the legal encumbrance on their land title, requiring them to pay the mandatory $100 annual fees that go towards enhanced landscaping. It is important to note that these fees are separate from the WSCR Community membership fees, which are optional and go towards community activities (soccer, summer camps, etc).

The CRRA Board of Directors is pleased to announce that we have contracted with a new landscaper, Pixie Gardens, to take on a variety of landscaping enhancements this spring/summer.  A three-year contract has been signed.  After going to tender, the Board reviewed proposals from four landscaping firms, (Carlson Landscaping, Foothills Landscaping, Flower Patch and Pixie Gardens).  The Board voted on Pixie Gardens as our best option.  The City of Calgary Parks division will continue the basic maintenance in Cougar Ridge, including the mowing of public spaces/parks/soccer fields, etc.

As in previous years, we will continue to focus on the four primary entrance areas, in addition to the boulevard planters.  You will notice that work has begun on 85th Street, where new planters will be added and turf rejuvenation will be done.  We also hope to be able to improve and weed out several of the beds in the parks and/or pathways.  We are aware that several ceramic planters were damaged or destroyed by vehicles this winter.  These will be replaced shortly.

If you have any other landscaping ideas for this year, please email us at feedback@mycougarridge.com

As a note - the CRRA annual fees are solely designated towards enhanced/improved landscaping in Cougar Ridge and cannot be used for things like snow removal etc.

The CRRA would like to welcome new member residents from Paskapoo at Cougar Ridge.  Residents who have taken possession in this new Apex development will be receiving their first CRRA invoice this year and will be contributing to the enhanced landscaping of Cougar Ridge.  Apex Development has generously donated $20,00 to the CRRA, to be used for the planters that will be added to 85th Street.

Save the Date: The 2012 Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday October 9, 2012.

CRRA update - March 2012
The 2011-2012 CRRA Board of directors has had a busy winter going tender for landscaping 3rd party contractors.  We will have everything in place for landscaping enhancements to begin again this spring!  The boulevards will continue to be enhanced with planters, the entrance areas maintained and enhanced and we hope to include weeding and beautification of some parks and pathways this season.

If you have any ideas for landscaping, please email us at feedback@mycougarridge.com

The City of Calgary is conducting an online survey on tree preservation.  The deadline for completion is 22Nov2011.

Please consider completing the survey to voice your opinions.  You may not be aware that the CRRA Board is not authorized by the City to plant or replace dead/dying trees in Cougar Ridge.  We are looking into working with the City to explore ways to to increase the number of trees in the community.

Landscaping News

6 Sep 2011

Our landscaping goals for 2011 have been completed.  The boulevards were enhanced with planters, mulch, bushes, perennials and flowers.  In addition, the four main entrances were maintained and enhanced with flower beds.  We hope you are pleased with the results!

If you have any comments/feedback regarding the work that was completed in 2011, please email us at feedback@mycougarridge.com

We continue to liaise with the City of Calgary, as they are responsible for the general maintenance, mowing and weeding in Cougar Ridge.  We do not yet have an enhanced landscaping agreement and therefore have not taken over any of this general maintenance from the City.  If you see issues with mowing/weeding that needs to be be done, please email us but first contact the City's 311 system, and register a complaint.

Trimming Along Fence Lines

Please be aware that the City of Calgary Parks Department will no longer trim along fence lines. They will cut grass as close to the fence as possible with the mowers. It will be the responsibility of the homeowners residing along the fence to trim when they are caring for their lawn. This adjustment in the Parks Department policy will allow them to focus some hours on cleaning and trimming park bush areas. Thank you to all Cougar Ridge residents for taking a few minutes to trim along their fence line and contributing to a beautiful community we can all be proud of.

Graffiti Vandalism

There has been a spike in graffiti vandalism in Cougar Ridge.

While the CRRA is not responsible for combating graffiti vandalism, many residents contact us to see what can be done about it.

The Calgary Police Service and the City of Calgary's Animal and Bylaw Services takes graffiti vandalism very seriously. They recommend that if you see graffiti you:

    • Remove graffiti from your property as soon as you notice it. The City of Calgary offers the Private Graffiti Abatement Program to help residents and business owners remove graffiti from their private property. Under the program, residents can pay a $25 fee and sign a waiver granting a City contractor permission to remove the graffiti. All revenue is reinvested into the program.
    • Record the crime by taking pictures of the vandalism.
    • Report graffiti on City or private property by calling 3-1-1. If you see someone in the act of putting up graffiti anywhere in the city, please call the police at 9-1-1.
